Algae Inhibition and Control
When Frogmat is filled with barley straw and placed into a body of water such as a lake, the barley straw that is used as a filler material for the Frogmat starts to decompose releasing chemicals that inhibit the growth of algae.
This process when properly controlled has no side effects on the local environment and wildlife in which Frogmat is used in fact it has been proven that by inhibiting blue / green algae growth Frogmat removes the block that is caused at the bottom of the food chain allowing invertebrate and fish populations to proliferate.
Frogmat has a proven record of combating cyanobacterial and diatom species that block filtration systems and produce toxic and odorous by-products.

Ground Protection, Regeneration and Reclamation
Frogmat at 1.2 metres wide and filled with compacted straw provides a carpet which spreads the weight of humans, animals and vehicles over sensitive or muddy areas. Even marshy areas can be accessed.
Acting as a mulch Frogmat can be pre-seeded or will allow the existing local vegetation to grow through over time. It anchors loose earth in place affording stability to new vegetation and forming a barrier to the elements. As the Frogmat decomposes it releases nutrients (especially nitrate) increasing the organic content of the soil giving the land a helping hand until vegetation is well established.

Crop protection, Costal defence and Slope protection
The insulating properties of Frogmat caused by the air in the straw stalks and between the packed stems can be utilised to protect crops from extreme temperatures. The mesh like structure of the Frogmat disrupts evaproation from wind and infra red radiation increasing water retention.

Oil spills, Chemical contamination and Barrier applications
The straw content used in these applications has a high affinity for oil and absorbs up to 20 times its own weight of oil and represents a chemical attraction between a hydro-carbon and a carbohydrate. Frogmat can wipe even a sheen from the water surface.
Frogmat can be used to soak up oil and chemical spills and has been used also as pre-soaked disinfectant barriers for various installations to assist in the prevention of vehicular and pedestrian disease transportation.
